History of Hope Clinic

  • Hope Clinic is founded by Dr. Dan Heffernan
  • The Medical Clinic begins as a Saturday morning walk-in clinic, operating out of borrowed space

  • The Hope Food Bank begins, operating out of volunteers’ homes


  • Hope Clinic is incorporated
  • The Hope Board of Directors is established


  • Cathy Robinson is hired as Executive Director, the first paid staff position

  • Hope’s Food Bank and administrative offices move to the Hope Center building at 518 Harriet St. in Ypsilanti
  • Hope’s Weekend Meals program is launched out of the Ypsilanti Salvation Army building


  • New programs begin at Hope Center including the Wash With Care laundry program, an Emergency Financial Assistance program, and the Care and Share Closet stocked with items not available with food stamps


Arnet med clinic

  • Hope Medical Clinic moves to a building at 103 Arnet St. in Ypsilanti and expands hours


  • Hope Dental Clinic begins in a building at 9 S. Adams St. in Ypsilanti


  • Hope establishes a satellite medical clinic in western Wayne County


  • A capital campaign is launched to house all of Hope’s Ypsilanti programs under one roof in Hope Center



  • Expansion and renovations of Hope Center are completed
  • The Medical Clinic, Dental Clinic, and Weekend Meals programs move to the Hope Center building


  • Cathy Robinson retires, and a new executive director is hired
  • Dr. Dan retires from Board of Directors and as Medical Director—Dr. Jean Cederna becomes the new Medical Director
  • Weekly Hope Fellowship services begin


Farm Stand

  • Farm Stand 454, housing Hope’s produce distribution program, has its grand opening
  • Hope Clinic continues to offer programs to meet basic needs, serving people in the name of Christ
