Milestones

- In 1982 Hope Medical Clinic was established to provide free medical care to the uninsured.
- An Emergency Food Bank was developed in 1985 to serve Hope patients. It was later broadened to serve others in need.
- In 1987 Hope incorporated and a governing board was formed.
- Hope purchased the 9 S. Adams building in 1991 that was subsequently renovated to serve as Hope Dental Clinic. The Dental Clinic opened in 1994. In partnership with Friends in Deed, the furniture program began to operate out of the warehouse connected to the Dental Clinic.
- Hope began it Weekend Meal program in May, 1991.
- In 1992 Hope acquired a building at 518 Harriet on the south side of Ypsilanti to house the Food Bank, administrative offices and future social service programs.
- The Wash With Care program became operational in 1992 providing a free place for low income families to do their laundry.
- Hope purchased a Medical Clinic facility in 1993 and began weekday clinics.
- Shop with Pride, a store where clients could use points earned in a variety of ways to access store products, became operational in 1996. This program evolved into the Care and Share Closet, which provides basic nonfood items such as paper goods, personal hygiene products and household cleaning supplies to those in need.
- After a year of planning, Oasis Café, opened its doors in February, 2001. Oasis, while serving the general public, provided a quality dining experience to low income individuals at a 70% discount. Hope operated the Cafe for three years.
- Opened satellite medical clinic in Chelsea in the fall of 2001 under the direction of Dr. Diane Howlin.
- In 2006 Hope received funding to establish a satellite clinic in Western Wayne County.
- In 2008 Hope broke ground on a building expansion at Hope Center. This expansion will allow all of our programs and services to be housed at the one site, increasing efficiency and convenience to our clients and lowering costs. For more information visit the Campaign for One Hope website.
